This is a nice little Irish pub. Food is good and there is a decent beer and drink selection. Crowd seems nice and service is good. For food, the make a pretty good Cuban sandwich for an Irish pub. The Gaelic burger complete with rashers is good as are the fish and chips, shepherd's pie and of course, the Guiness. My only real complaint is that it is little. There's not a lot of leg room at the tables and you are almost shoulder to shoulder with your neighbors. Probably not the best place to watch a game, either, but for food and drink, it is nice.

Nothing special. Beer could be colder, burger was good but not $13 good (especially with Burger Joint not too far), and fries were tasteless. Service was Irish-friendly and direct. Not much around, but not a top pick.

Right by the N,Q,R train station on 57th street. As soon as you walk in its a small pub. We we kind of confused as to where to sit, there is a bar directly in the center of this small spot and tables lined up around the walls. I had there beet salad with grilled chicken and arugula. While the salad was great I think there was a bit much arugula for my liking and the salad could definitely feed two people! The drink of the day might have been one of the worst mistakes I've made since dressing up like rap group Kriss Kross in the 90s!!!! It was some orange powdered drink with soda and one drop of rum in it. HORRIBLE idea!!!!! Then there was a crazy man that kept entering trying to solicit customers and sell a stuff teddy bear that he found somewhere! What a messy place.

This is probably not only the worst bar but but place I have been in NYC. We went there with a group of 8-9 poeple. Ordered our drinks. My wife does not drink so she just wanted water. The waitresses refused to serve water saying she only serves poeple who order drinks. Not sure what was her problem ( may be she didnt like serving brown skinned poeple). Even then i did not raise my voice and asked calmly that my wife is with our group and we all ordered drinks so whats her issue. She deined to even serve water then Then I ordered water for myself. I didnt wanted to spoil our friends night so stayed calm. But I am sure I wont be visiting this place anymore. I have never been treated such a way ever

Beer. Burgers and bar food. Don't get crazy, just keep it simple and you'll be OK. It's across from Carnegie Hall and up the block from Park Ave. S. so tourists come here and perhaps the prices are more than they should be. But, my best friends live around the corner and I know this joint as the place where I can hear the voices in the alley outside my bedroom at 5am and get good beer on draft and a greasy good bacon cheese hamburger. It is what it is. Keep it real- and bring some best friends.

After going to my buddies comedy gig, I met some friends over here for a couple beers before heading home. At 10pm, this place was pretty crowded. As the other reviewers have stated, this place is cramped. A little too cramped for me. I hate that feeling that people are listening to my conversation. I usually like to be the one doing the listening. :) Anyway, what I like about this place for my 2 bud lights, is the fact that the waitresses circle the room like sharks, so I know they are always an "Excuse me" away from my next round. My buddy paid, so I can't really comment on price, but they seem to have their stuff together. Decent Men's room, if you can squeeze by the stool on the back wall, and not get popped by the door opening. Good hookup of flat panel TV's, as they had the Yankees game on, which catches some street wanderers peering through the window, and kind of joining you at your table. Niiiice.

More like a carny that will entice you in with the possibility of good pub grub, but will instead leave your wallet stripped and your stomach and taste buds angry at you for the rest of the night. The waitresses all appear to be authentically Irish. Definitely not one of New York's finest.

I used to love this place. It was my neighborhood spot...however, lately the dark ambiance has changed to something glaring and bright. The bartenders seem to have gotten less knowledgeable and more arrogant. The food has gone down hill...seriously how do you mess up chicken tenders. I feel this place lost its identity, but maybe that is for the best since it like everything else in this neighborhood will be torn down for a luxury high-rise.

Surprise...Surprise. This place was really nice and it saved the day. I took my son to the city to see Handel's Messiah, but we had a real problem finding a place to eat. every single restaurant require a reservation. Like a Miracle I saw Pj Carney and there in the corner was an empty table. I was just glad to find a place to eat, but I was really surprise how good the food was at Pj Carney.

Almost went with a Cesear Salad since it was late to be eating for me, but went with the Cuban Sandwhich. This was the right move. The moment it took to decide delayed our order. It took a while for the waitress to get to us in the first place with menus and ordering when rushed after driving for 5 hours in the rain and fog is not my forte. Give me a damn Guiness and then let me look at the menu for a bit why dontcha? Our pints came quickly which was a relief. Cuban Sandwhich was large, sliced into two massive pieces. After a few bites into one side, I'd eated only a third of the side, we decided to go catch a friend and his band gigging downtown and asked the waitress for the food to go, and the bill. She add the order from the table next to ours on and it took some time to sort that out. We were trying to get out of there, and in that period of time I could still have been having dinner. Rushed off to the car and asked my mister to hand me the remaining 2/3 side of the two sandwhich pieces. Found that the waitress had only packed away the one unbitten side of the sandwhich. When did "wrap all this to go please" while pointing at one's plate translate to half? Next time I'm in that neck of the woods, I'll go to the Parker Meridian Burger Joint.

Just an old school pub. The waitress was kind of a bitch but in a way you would expect. I respect her for owning it. I'm sure she's been working there for years and skips the crap. Beer and food were a-ok! PLus we got to watch football and hear an annoying Long Island chic talking super loud.

Great pub near Central Park/Carnegie Hall in a location barren of good, casual places to drink and eat. The staff are all friendly and all the bar/Irish food I've tried is excellent (nachos, shepherd's pie, soups). The bar is an island centered in the room, with counters all around, great for hanging out in a relaxed atmosphere.

Ate here because it was around the corner from my hotel and everything else that wasn't junk food was booked because it was Valentine's Day. Ordered one of the specials: grilled salmon with maple syrup glaze, sliced apples, and scallion mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. It was good--I am a hardcore Northern California food snob and gourmet cook--scallion mashers were delicious and not gummy (as so often happens with add-ins), grilled asparagus was pretty good, considering it is February (so not local). Sliced apples on the salmon were nice. Salmon was somewhat overcooked: it should be crispy on the outside (check) but just barely set in the middle. Mine was firmly cooked all the way through; most people would not notice this. Still, it was good, as it came with a lemon wedge, impressively scupted peel, allowing me to fine-tune the sweetness of the glaze. Wine selection is short but acceptable. Ambiance: TVs are on w/o sound. Music is clubby but not, thank god, so loud you can't have a conversation. Service is fine; prompt, but not attentive, staff seemed slightly stretched for a Thursday. Great deal for the money. I will definetly come here again next time I'm in NY for this conference.

What the heck happened to this place? Yeah, that's what you want to do to stand out...strip off all the old New York charm and renovate with stuff you bought at Home Depot. I guess I'm the only one that didn't know they remodeled the place...in fact it's so different that I couldn't find it at first. I had to go in and see what the inside looked like since I had specifically tracked it down. Really depressing inside. They should just turn it into a Starbucks now. Apart from the remodel, they were experiencing some kind of sewer issue I think because every 5 minutes there was a blast of noxious gasses. The wait staff is rude (maybe rude isn't the right word...they're like zombies who rather be doing anything but pouring you a Guinness). The beer selection is the same as any off-the-highway Applebee's. Oh, and they tried to overcharge us after our 20-minute stay...nice try. Why do people still come to this place? If it were one long block farther away from Carnegie Hall it would go out of business.

If I ever had any bar cred before bringing two newish friends to this bar, I may have lost it-I don't think they'll believe me again when I tell them about a decent bar. Don't get me wrong-this is a good bar to grab a beer and fries on a quiet night. But if you come for a cocktail (ours was a whopping $11 in a very small glass), and get the mac n cheese (gross, flavorless-at $9 I was still hungry and all I wanted was a snack) and come on a busy day (the bar itself is a large island in the middle of the room so the place can get easily packed) you may find yourself disappointed. The decor is classy and the bar has been around for a while. If you happen to go to Carnegie hall, all things considered, don't hesitate to grab a drink afterward if the circumstances are favorable.

This has been a stalwart midtown institution for decades. It actually was much cooler before it was remodeled and cleaned up a few years ago, but it's still very good. The food menu is surprisingly excellent pub fare - you'll be amazed to see how small the kitchen is! Has a great "neighborhood hangout" feel...in a neighborhood that feels kinda of touristy and corporate. A nice joint.

In the midst of a boring part of town lies a boring pub. Complete with a boring menu of... wait. I guess I should stop there. I LOVE boring pub menus complete with comforty goodness. That doesn't save the weird shady mid day vibe at PJ Carneys, in the middle of midtown right by the park. The drink selection was actually pretty decent, and the food hit all the right spots, but the waitress and/or kitchen were in pretty poor form. Admittedly we were are a large group (10+), but our drink orders were taken pretty much two at a time, and when the food came out, two people in our group had to wait until I had already devoured my burger to get their food. (Burgers also). Truth be told, PJ Carneys is about what I expected. Slightly below average everything for a slightly below average neighborhood.

My boyfriend and I stopped in here for a drink before retiring to our nearby hotel. They had a fair selection of beer on tap and a wine list that consisted of more than "red" and "white." I opted for a single serving bottle of sparkling. I love it when bars have that. There are four waitresses, which seems a lot for a small place, and they get along well. It was sometimes hard to catch someone's eye for a refill but it wasn't impossible. The fried mozzarella was not the best I've ever had, but you really can't screw up fried cheese that much and they had warm marinara for dipping and brought me ranch dressing when I asked. We had so much fun watching the dance of seduction across the bar from us (him: do you have a boyfriend? her: I have like four boyfriends), but I can't guarantee that particular amusement for your visit.

Went there last night after walking around NYC all night. We were in the mood for a pub: ya know, warm atmosphere, bar food, drinks, laid-back. We got all that. We hung out for a couple of hours. Music and noise level were good, lots of entertaining people around (mostly drunk). Bartenders were pretty attentive and easy to get in touch with. We each had a burger, they were decent. Wasn't too fond of our dirty martini's even though we had more than one. (Why, you ask? Because it's what we were in the mood for so we stuck with it!) Previous comment was correct, if you sit by the door you'll get a cold breeze every time it opens. Overall, we had a good time and were not disappointed.

A miserable pub where the bar is 1.5 times too big for the space. You really feel like youre in a ship's hold. It reminds me of the scene in Arrested Development when Lucile moved her bathroom wall one foot, causing her neighbor's kitchen cabinets to be too small for her cups.

I used to grab my pints at PJ Carneys before they renovated. The bar sprung from the back wall and swept through the space in a commanding horseshoe. The Irish staff poured solid pints, and dishes of steaming chips and soups sprung from a dumbwaiter in the wall. These days the space is bit cavernous in comparison, but the staff are still as friendly as ever. I do miss the cozy character of the old space. It's still a great place to chat with the musicians after their practice at Carnegie Hall.

Here's where this place fits into a great evening: It's across the street from Carnegie Hall, still open post-concert and will do you up perfectly acceptable fish and chips or burgers with your drinks in short order. The waitstaff have always been perfectly nice to me. Adding a star - more good food choices on menu.

Who cares about the food and drink with such outrageously obnoxious staff? Our party of seven sat at a table for six and we were waiting for more, so I pulled the empty table next to us over to our table. The waitress came over and started screaming at me that she had told us the table was reserved. When I told her that I did not hear her say that and apologized, she continued to chastise me as she yanked the table away. (No one had heard her say anything about the table being reserved.) When she returned to take our orders, she ignored me and did not take my order. When she returned later to take the order of one of the late arrivals, she ignored me and did not take my order. When she returned an hour later to take our menus, she finally asked if I wanted anything. I had a lovely time with my friends. I just wish we had gone somewhere where the waitstaff deserved their mandatory gratuity. The $0.02 I left on the table was overly generous.

Small ( and I do mean small) bar in Midtown. Came after work to grab a few drinks and tried a couple of appetizers. Really nothing to get too excited about. I felt the wait staff was very attentive and eager to refresh our drinks and the food was okay. Stop by if you are in the neighborhood and give it a go. What can I say...small bar, small review.

"In a city that boasts literally thousands of bars & pubs, one name is legendary: P.J. Carney's." I went to P. J. Carney's to meet up with some friends for a drink, but ended up having a bite to eat as well - So I might as well write about it! I had a bowl of French onion soup which was pretty good but I felt could have had a bit richer flavor. I added salt but that wasn't quite what it needed. We also shared some onion rings which were very good. There service was friendly and the drinks were good - the reason we came was because my girlfriend was there a few days ago throwing back French martinis with a friend and they wanted to come back! I'll definitely consider this an after-work drink spot, but probably wouldn't seek it out to go out for dinner.

On my recent business trip to New York a colleague and myself wanted to go to a casual bar environment and ended up here. We sat and ate at the bar which was great, the place was very crowded but the bar tenders were very good at keeping the drinks full. The bartenders recommend we get the chicken nuggets as appetizers which were way over fried and didn't taste that great. I ordered the pork chops with it, which was great. The pork was prepared with an orange glaze and sauce, it was very good and a lot of food to go around. Not bad bar food with a good environment to grab drinks with friends.

Being a night student at John Jay College i always find myself tired and in need of a drink after class and the gym, so i just stop by PJ Carneys before hopping on the train. I always find it relaxing, they always show the games that are on which is great! Good place to sit back, relax, enjoy a game and of course have a brew!

I've had some good times here, except for once when we got fish and chips and the fish was off. And by off I mean rotten. And gross. But they did take it back quickly and replace our food. The service is generally good, but it's always packed because of how small it is. Overall, a good place for a quick pint, but nothing too special.

3.5 Stars. I feel some of the locals aren't giving this place a fair run for it's money so I'm going to give it a half star higher. I went here while I was waiting for my friend that works at Jekyll and Hyde's to get out of work. It's like a couple blocks away so it wasn't a very far walk. 2 Guinesses and a bowl of Clam Chowder will cost you $19. The beer was nice and cold, the decor was cool...typical pub style and the clam chowder I thought was great! It's not as good as the clam chowder I've had on the Oregon Coast, but it was damn good in my book! I'd go back to this place for sure. The bartender was very friendly and there were a lot of Irish/Scotish/British people hanging out in this place. I thought it was a nice place...nothing too special, but it was cool and convinient. There are about 4000 pubs in NYC though so there's really nothing that makes this place stand out in a crowd. I'd recommend the clam chowder though if you're in the area and hungry!

Found PJ Carney's on a Happy Hour app that I use and this choice was definitely worth it! They have 2 happy hours! 3-6PM & 11:30PM-2:30PM. After picking a table, the bartender came from behind the bar, greeted us with menus, and told us that our server would be right with us. Once our server came, We ordered the white wine, a margarita, 20 wings, and fries. The wine and wings were from the happy hour. $5 per glass and 20 wings were $10. Draft Beer and shots of Tullamore Dew were $4 also. The house white was Chardonnay and it was very good. I'm a Pinot Grigio drinker so I knew that I was gonna get one glass, not like it, and order something else but I actually ordered more wine. The wings and fries were great. Crispy and not tiny. Service was amazing! She was busy but always there when we needed her, and she was fast. She was the best! I wish I remembered her name. I'll definitely be back to find out. She deserves a shout out :-)

A group of us stopped by PJ Carneys for a happy hour drink before trooping across the street to Carnegie Hall for a concert. Unfortunately their after-work happy hour ends astoundingly early at 6PM so we ended up paying the regular price. The beers seem overpriced, with drafts running $8.70, $9.90 or some other weird amount. This is only the second bar I've been to in NYC that insists on openly adding the sales tax to the amount and seems so odd. Why not just say $8 and $9, or $8.50 and $9.50? I'm sure it slows the bartenders down. PJ Carneys is probably one of the smallest bars I've been in and it gets uncomfortably crowded in the evening. The waitress was doing a good job of getting us refills, but had to keep asking us to move out of the aisle (to where?). Some of the seats at the tables are so tight against the wall, if you're over 100 pounds you won't fit. For being "more than a New York institution" I wasn't too impressed. Maybe its pub food is better, but I'm not sure if I'd want to eat at the table 3 feet from the Men's room door.

THE GOOD - Location wise, PJ Carneys is great. Its a few blocks down from central park and right across the street from Carnegie hall. -The whole front wall is made up of windows which makes it a great place to people watch. -Good beer list - featured local craft beers and more mainstream "bud lites" THE BAD -Wasnt impressed with the food options. I got the BBQ pork sandwich that was described as being topped with sour pickles and cole slaw. Maybe its just because I'm from the south, but the "sour pickles" were bland and the coleslaw was too creamy. -The service was also VERY slow. After sitting down it took the waitress at least 20 minutes to come to our table, despite the fact that the restaurant was close to empty. -The restaurant had a very cramped feel, and not the good NYC cosy cramped feeling. For example, my seat was up against a pillar which made getting in and out of my seat somewhat difficult. ADVICE -not a bad spot to grab a beer around central park. However, don't go in expecting good food. The food is mediocre at best and the service was slow for a place that brags about being a favorite among musicians from carnegie hall.

PJ Carney's - Irish Pub at 57th & 7th Ave. This is a cool spot to just come and grab a quick drink during happy hour (they have 2! 3-6 pm; 11:30-2:30 am). The service is average to be honest but the only place I go when I visit is the bar (which takes up about 65 - 70 percent of the space in the joint). 3 out of 5 overall The bathrooms are small but you have what you need to do your biz lol. 3 out of 5. The location os the best thing about this place as I give it 5 out of 5! Central Park is literally a block or two away and Carnegie Hall as well! The atmosphere is pretty chill and it doesnt get too rowdy here which is great from time to time. 4 out of 5.

Very average bar with lackluster food. The service here was great and our waitress was really good at making sure we were okay and that our drinks were refreshed. The beers on tap were fine, but the issue was the blah food. Ordered the seafood chowder, which tasted okay but was served lukewarm. Adding to that, the clams in the chowder didn't seem fresh and I was glad I didn't end up with any stomach issues afterwards. I also ordered the Caesar salad with marinated chicken. The marinate was actually a type of curry with herbs that overpowered the salad - which felt soggy and a bit too warm. If you ever decide to pop over here, just stick to the drinks. I wouldn't really recommend eating here unless you didn't have time to head over to a different place nearby. Aside from the service, the only other plus I can think of is that this place is situated near a lot of subway stations, which is convenient.

Went here last night for New Year's Eve. One of the most horrific experiences I've ever had. Only went here because it was right outside the subway station and the closest place open past midnight on New Year's Eve. right after the ball dropped and fireworks went off in central Park, people started rushing in like crazy and there was a $10 cover charge. Had a beer for $10 and pulled pork sliders ($3 for $10) and french fries with garlic mayo. Food was barely edible, especially the pulled pork sliders which looked like balls of vomit smushed between two crisp burger buns. Female staff we encountered were rude as well. Music was insanely loud, like at a baseball stadium. TOO LOUD.

If you're near Carnegie Hall and don't want to spend your entire paycheck at a restaurant, this place is a godsend. We went on a weekday evening, when this unfussy Irish pub was packed with a regular-folk, after-work crowd. The sandwiches and burgers are mostly in the $14 range. The mini-cheeseburger and pulled pork sliders are $3.50 apiece and you can have as many as you want -- but you have to order at least three. There are specials too. The night we were there, I ordered four totally unmemorable but filling tuna salad sliders at $3 each. You can also get tons of beer on tap, a huge range of whiskeys...or have an $11 Old Fashioned cocktail, which is what we did. Every seat and bar stool was filled. But no one rushed us. It was an absolutely delightful midtown evening, made all the more pleasant by our very reasonable bill.

What a wonderful surprise! We stopped in for lunch after a morning at Central Park, not really expecting a whole lot. I ordered fish and chips, and Hubs ordered a burger and fries. The fish had the crispiest, lightest batter and were flaky and perfectly cooked inside. The fries were also really crispy and delicious! Hubs' burger was perfectly medium, like he ordered, served on a brioche bun, not a regular hamburger bun. Along with my fish and chips, I enjoyed a spicy Bloody Mary, heavy on the fresh horseradish and vodka. Yum! We'll definitely be back.

While I don't check in here often enough on my Yelp app, I am a regular. It's close to my office so location wise, it works for me. I've been here during lunch, dinner, happy hours (There are two a day!), and late nights. I think the late nights have been the most packed, at least when I've been there. The menu is simple, basic bar fare and the food is pretty good. Food and drinks are average price for the area.

I'm not a local, but this place will make your feel like one if you go at the right time. I was led here by some fellow students who visited last year and had nothing but great things to say about it. Granted, drinks are expensive, but it's New York. You don't wanna miss happy hour, $5 shots and/or glasses of wine and cheap food (wings are most popular). The buffalo wings are VERY spicy, watch out. Marcella, the waitress who served my friends and I more than a few times, is absolutely wonderful and on top of making sure you have all the drinks you need. Not great for groups of more than about 8.

I go to PJ Carney's maybe once every couple of weeks with coworkers after a shift at another midtown restaurant. And usually Caroline, Megan or Finn take care of us. Being in the service industry., myself and my coworkers are usually very forgiving of the substandard, shotty service and still tip a generous 20-30% every time we go visit. However this particular evening, Finn must have confused me with some other person who he thinks "orders fuckin beverages for other fags and tries to skip out on his bill" and cussed me out when I tried to pay my bill for two happy hour beverages for my coworker and I. At $5 a drink. $27 should have been generous enough. My bill somehow was $31 and I explained this to Finn. However, Finn came back and cussed me out saying that I "Bought drinks for other people and I always fucking do this all the time and just get the fuck out you asshole". I was shocked, hurt and embarrassed. So were my other coworkers who frequent Carneys. Needless to say. None of us are sure what was happening with the normally friendly Finn. Not only has he single handedly lost the business of many of his well tipping patrons from the service industry, but damaged the reputation of an otherwise well respected and friendly staff. Furthermore, after the incident when I called via telephone to speak to a manager, Finn said he is the manager and continued to cuss me out and said that "anyone who doesn't pay their fucking bill like a fucking fag isn't fucking ever coming back in his fucking bar". All in all, what a dreadful, disgusting and overall disheartening experience that has lost this bar a great deal of business from one bartender who didn't understand how to handle a simple mistake that he made.

As a guest to this location almost every other night I must say I "was" a fan. Good food. Great prices. And lovely staff. I usually come alone and find a seat wherever is possible. However today I was treated with the utmost disrespect for a return guest. I was told to move from the front of the Resturant to the back of the Resturant because I was sitting at a table meant for more people. As someone who sat alone I have never had an issue with my seating as long as it's not busy and it wasn't. Clearly I'm not welcomed nor is my money desired for whatever reason, perhaps my looks. But I won't be a guest there anymore.

I've passed this bar twice a day, five days a week, for the past year, and on the last day that I'll get to do so finally stopped in. Regrettably I can't speak for the food, but the Irish woman who served me and my friend our drinks was really nice. The bar itself is sort of oddly shaped. It's a square and takes up most of the center of the place, with tables along the edges of the walls. It seemed to get tight fast. We came in around midnight on a Wednesday, and even though most of the tables were empty it was still a little cramped. The bar seems to attract an older crowd around that time and in the middle of the week, men and women in their fifties enjoying a late dinner, but they were friendly and the whole bar was loud with conversation. On the weekends I've seen a much younger crowd hanging around outside, blocking the entrance to the 57th street station while they smoke their cigarettes. Interesting mix of music, I remember hearing Simple Minds and Red Solo Cup. The bathrooms nice but getting in and out can be kinda tight. Two amaretto sours and two Jameson's came to about $25 or $30. What really won me over was the bartender giving me a very generous shot of Jameson for the road after me and my friend only ordering four drinks between us.

This place is fun. Loud, energetic, and cozy! I had an excellent black & tan along with the special chicken tortilla soup. Soup was great! Very flavorful and filling. My husband had the chicken sandwich, which was huge, but, good, other than the bottom part of the bun was soggy. I like this place!

This is Everyman's pub. Very woody but not overly spitshined and polished. Just old wood everywhere. This place could be in any city with a population over 50k. It's a good "comfort zone" for people who are sick of slick NYC establishments, overly publicized joints, trendy showy fad places, etc. Say it's been a long, stressful day and you don't want to have to impress anyone or keep your guard up. You just want to sit your ass on a stool and suck up some suds, watch a game, chit-chat without having to advertise your IQ to get respect. You may not know anyone in there, but you feel as though you COULD know everyone in there. The food is simple but made well. No pretense, but tasty and honest. Just like the clientele.

This is a small dive bar with good beer selections and tasty apps. The bartender was great considering our crowd kept growing, requests never stopped and we could have potentially filled the entire bar. Food was fresh: warning - the wings are spicy, the bread on the sliders were thicker than I'd like but if you are not trying to monitor your carbs at a bar you'd probably say I was hallucinating. Lol

I came here on Saturday June 28th after spending the entire day in the city exploring. I got hammered so I forgot the name of the place which is why it took me so long to write a review. I just found the card I took from the establishment and I needed to write about my experience. First of all it was a hot and steamy Saturday and after walking the sixth avenue fair and having had a ball, the group I was with wanted to continue our festivities so we went in search of a bar. We thought since we are in midtown we would have no problem finding a cool establishment to have cocktails in. Well I was wrong, After walking into three different bars along which were all HOT, NO AC IN ANY OF THEM! We gave up and decided to walk to the train station and make our way into Brooklyn when low and behold right next to the train was PJ Carneys. We opened the door and a blast of AC hit us and we were delighted. It was crowded so we figured a quick drink and off we would go. That was not the case, as we made our way into the crowded place, a spot at the bar opened and we made our way to it, The TVs were on and the people were cheering the soccer teams playing. Our first drink went down rather quickly and we ordered another one. The people at the bar were friendly and engaging and since I knew nothing about soccer, they were nice enough to explain the details to me. We were in deep conversation with the other patrons when the bar tender gave us a marker for the next drink, I saw dishes flying by us which looked and smelled delicious so we ordered appetizers, the chicken fingers were amazing and we ended up ordering more of them. I had a wonderful time and ended up staying there for hours. The waitresses were amazingly quick refilling our drinks and making sure we had everything we needed. I will deffinately be back for more fun! ps the restrooms were also clean.

This is a very solid bar. Nice beer selection. Certainly the only place I'd consider going to in this area. The food is over-priced, but you'd expect that for this neighborhood. The music is slightly cheesy, but again, expected. Their happy hour is great, though. And they have two of them each day from Monday-Friday. So for the happy hour. Well worth it. Sweet bartenders. Sports games on the tv. Clean bathrooms. The N/Q train is literally right outside the bar door, so talk about convenience! I'd give them more a 3.5 star rating than a 3-star, if it were possible.

So many 3-star reviews, I guess I must have come on a good day. It was a Friday night (around 9:30pm) and surprisingly this place was not crowded. Felt very low key and wasn't loud at all. We had a nice table by the window which was perfect. The food; while my girlfriend wasn't a big fan of their "roasted beets" salad which was made up of chopped up beets from a can. (I tasted it and it brought back some traumatizing memories from my childhood) I had their BBQ pulled pork sandwich with their "homemade slaw" which was actually pretty good. My friends that we went with swear by their fish & chips. They also have Happy Hour specials from 3-6pm and midnight to 3am. (Both times we were not there for)

There are sports on every TV there; however, it's hard to enjoy them when break-up music like Taylor Swift, The Fray, Snow Patrol, etc. is playing. So get a drink and cry, it's ok.

I've been here a few times in the past few years, always before or after a concert across the street at Carnegie Hall -- and it's taken me all this time (until this past Saturday night) to realize that this is really the only place (other than my own living room) that I'm entirely comfortable grabbing a few drinks with friends and having intensive conversations when I'm really worked up with anxiety or anguish related to unbelievably sublime or ghastly horrible musical events. After a performance of Bruckner's 8th Symphony, keep the ice-cold pints of Duvel Green coming please, I need somewhere to safely pontificate about how much I prefer the Haas Edition and the 1890 version over the versions made in 1887 or 1890. And perhaps I'd love a quiet and discreet place to gobble down some fairly decent Nachos (extra salsa please) while fighting back tears over the immense beauties and complexities of Messiaen's Turangalila Symphonie or Busoni's Piano Concerto. And, ever so often, it'd be great to find nearby shelter during a thunderstorm while unleashing an unholy maelstrom of my own furies following disappointing performances from over-rated musicians like Ian Bostridge. This is a cozy place where nobody is ever made to feel unwelcome.

I really liked PJ Carney's for what it was. A warm little haven on a chilly day. We were hungry. We were thirsty. We wanted a beer and a bite. (Okay, so i had a tea. But my friend ordered a beer...) The place is tiny. Well it feels tiny because of the GIGANTIC bar in the middle of the joint taking up almost all available space. But i didn't mind it. It gave the place some character. Good stuff: My friend really like the Anchor Steam beer he had. I really like the name Anchor Steam. I had a french onion soup and it was deeeelish! Tons o' cheese! My friend ordered a sampler platter with wings, potato skins, chicken fingers and veggie sticks with all the sauces. All yummy. The waitress was attentive and friendly. Bad stuff": I ordered a tea in the hopes of an afternoon caffeine zip (i don't drink coffee) and the waitress brought me a decaf! It was still yummy and I drank it, but i thought it was strange to bring a decaf bag of tea without asking. It was already brewing in the pot (with the little label peering out at me, mocking me) or i would have returned it. Another annoying thing was that the door to the street didn't have a airlock or curtain or anything. So every time someone came in or out we got a cold wind up our backs from outside.

Cramped and somewhat crowded for this Irish Pub being in the mist of the hustle and bustle on a Friday night as the wait staff tries to pass narrow aisles between tables and the bar to serve patrons. I came here for a company farewell gathering of our store manager which is bitter sweet, in my opinion, the BEST store manager in my soon-to-be five year run. A dinner gathering after closing with my fellow co-workers and managers gave warmth to my heart as employees we spend most of the day in the workplace than at home. Working the closing shift of soon-to-be five years, my lunch is daily converted to dinner at 4pm which later surprising I did not develop a huge appetite at PJ Carneys. I ordered the staples of bar food: French Fries and mozzarella sticks along with a Cosmo which completes me as a wholesome person for the night. The French Fries were no shortage despite that it is not well seasoned or have any flavor without salt or ketchup. The mozerella sticks were somewhat lacking in quanity as I was hoping an abundant appetizer. There are only one restroom each for men and women which does not meet the demands of heavy traffic on Friday or Saturday nights. The restrooms are behind the bar in a very narrow walk-way. There are giant wide-screen TVs for avid sports lovers to follow their favorite team(s) of various genres.

I don't know why Yelp has it closed on Saturday. No, its live and kickin! A lot of ethnic and age diversity amongst patrons which is awesome. Can always meet someone to shoot the Shit with. Bartenders are spot on and amazing and energetic and friendly. Wings are yummy although fries are meh (They would go good with vinegar but they have no vinegar;( Jukebox is good.

I ate here with two friends and we tried the pork sliders, burger and fries, and shepherd's pie. It was all delicious! Service was attentive, decor was pleasant, and surfaces were clean. Prices seemed so low it was a little surprising. Frankly, I'm surprised it wasn't more crowded.

We stop by there 10.30pm june, 9/13. With some friends and I was the designated driver that night. My friends were all having a beer but me. One of my friends was joking with me and give a hard tap on my shoulder so i was going to the same back at him and the bartender raise her voice at me and said " STOP IT". I ask her why she reacted that way, why cant I joke around with my friend. She said in a rude way, they are having beer and your not so you cant joke around and that i should leave. I am a bartender as well at the lincoln center of performing arts and I know how important customer service is. And this lady does not have any good CS. So this is my fare share of a review

I like their "crispy" wings. It's a good place to go for drinks and bar-food if your in that part of town and get a seat at the bar. They don't have much in the way of serious craft beers but they do have a fair selection on tap nonetheless. Skip dinner there and eat at the nearby Redeye Grill.
